Portsmouth's reputation as a children's place is growing and the summer series at Willett Hall is helping that image.
A first-class performance Thursday by Circus Beserkus, a troupe of three clowns, kept hundreds of small children and their mamas enthralled for an hour.
Willett Hall has scheduled four events with Joanie Bartels, an award-winning children's singer, appearing on July 25 and a performance of ``Beauty and the Beast'' by American Family Theater on Aug. 8.
The tickets are inexpensive - $4 for kids - and the 11 a.m. performances are good timing.
Parents and organizations from all over Hampton Roads brought children to see the circus program, which was excellent. Perhaps the pleasant visit will encourage them to return to Willett Hall for other programs.
The Children's Museum of Virginia, the children's stage and special section at the Seawall Festival speak eloquently of Portsmouth's family values. A first-class children's program at Willett expands that image. by CNB
