ELWOOD PIERCE

Elwood Pierce, 70, of the 1400 block of Anne Ave., died Wednesday, July 10, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.

Mr. Pierce was born in Old Norfolk County, Va., and was the son of the late Thomas G. and Anna Brickhouse Pierce. He was the widower of Bessie Vitek Pierce. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, William Pierce, Leslie Pierce, Frank Pierce, Johnnie Pierce and Paul Walter Pierce. Mr. Pierce was a retired merchant seaman and a retired longshoreman. He was a member of South Norfolk Church of Christ. He was a member of the International Longshoremen Association, Local 970 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Berkley Aerie 795.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge. Interment will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times at 505 Marston Drive, Chesapeake.

Uncle Elwood, a favorite uncle, was one who spent a large part of his life at sea, which he loved so greatly. He entertained his family with stories of his adventures and childhood tales. He was an avid card player, resorting to solitaire when no family was around.
