TOP WOMEN IN BUSINESS HONORED

The Outstanding Professional Women of Hampton Roads held its 15th annual awards ceremony in Virginia Beach and named Linda F. Pegram as Woman of the Year.

Pegram is the director of the Portsmouth School of Beauty Culture Inc.. She is credited with enriching the lives of young people, motivating them to become independent, productive members of their community.

The Community Service award was given to Mary Haddad of the Family and Children's Trust Fund. Cmdr. Tonya J. Concannon, an executive officer at the Norfolk Naval Station who has served as acting commanding officer, received the Pioneer award.

Other women honored for the year were: Ann Christy with Grand Affairs; Debra Anderson with the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters; Katherine Ripberger with Fleet Brokerage Securities, and Susan Sites with Crestar Bank.

Also, Karen Corrigan with Sentara Health Systems; Kay James with Regent University; Dr. Sandra Glasson with Orthopedic Specialist; Janet Woods of Janet's Fashion & Interiors Inc.; Wendy Jo Brodsky with NationsBank, and Judy Thaler with Re/Max Alliance.

Winners of past Woman of the Year awards were Dr. Rachel C. Hopkins, Meyera E. Oberndorf, Kathleen S. Magee, Lillian Vernon, Lt. Cmdr. Darlene M. Iskra, Dorcas T. Helfant, Beth Polson, Lydia C. Taylor, Sandra M. Rowe, Esther D. Pincus, Joan Gifford, Virginia C. Andrews, Dr. Melissa A. Warfield, and Dr. Georgeanna Seegar Jones.
