STEPHENSON H. GRUBBS

Stephenson H. ``Steve'' Grubbs, 62, died Saturday, July 13, 1996, in Selma, N.C., at the home of his brother.

Mr. Grubbs, a Baptist, was born in Lenoir County, N.C., and was the son of the late Thomas Leo Grubbs and Lonnie Irene Stephenson Grubbs. He was the widower of Lee Parsons Grubbs.

He retired as a civil service employee from the Command Naval Base in Norfolk and then retired from Lake Taylor Hospital as a maintenance worker. He was a Navy veteran and a former member of Burlington, N.C., Jaycees. He was a life member in perpetuity and master Mason of the Norview Lodge (NU)113 AF & AM and served as worshipful master in 1978; served as district deputy grand master for the 35th District in 1984; was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; member of Royal Arch Chapter (NU)62 and high priest. At the time of his death, he was high priest of Virginia Research Royal Arch Chapter (NU)1753. He was a Shriner and member of Khedive Temple and member of the Fire Brigade. He served in many capacities and offices in Masonry and held a ``Gold Card'' issued by the Grand Lodge of Virginia.

Survivors include two brothers, James Leo Grubbs of Orlando, Fla., and Joseph B. Grubbs of Selma, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Pine Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Robert E. Land of Messiah Lutheran Church. Masonic rites will be accorded at graveside. The family will be at Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the residence of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Martin, 318 Country Club Drive in Burlington. Memorials may be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.
