Ruth W. Jernigan, of the 2400 block of Masi St., died peacefully July 13, 1996, at her residence.
A native of Greenville, N.C., and the daughter of the late Edward and Rosa Carney Ward,, she was also the widow of George ``Easy Baby'' ``Big Apple'' Jernigan Jr. She was a member of Greater Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church of Norfolk, and was active in the Athenian Sunday school class.
Survivors include a daughter, Vera J. Jernigan of Norfolk; a son, Garry W. ``Jug-head'' Jernigan, also of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Ross of Bronx, N.Y., and Mrs. Laura Moore of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Stephen Ward of Norfolk; an aunt, Mrs. Louise Liley of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and special friends.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Greater Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, 822 E. Brambleton Ave., with the Rev. Thomas Tucker Jr. presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Jernigan's remains will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Service.
