Head Coach William Creef of Manteo has announced the host team for the 1996 Babe Ruth World Series for 16- to 18-year-olds in Manteo next month.
The team, made up of 18 players from the Albemarle region, is: Gerald Crawford, Ted Toler, Foye Minton, Shaun Berrera, Rico Pegan, and Brandon Butler, Dare County; Kenny Simmons, Johnny Fuller, Mike Weatherly, Brian Willowby, Currituck County; Justin Burke and Wade Temple, Elizabeth City; Doug Leary, Camden County; Clint Eley and Brock Nixon, Perquimans County; Joseph Brantley, Michael White and Darren Cottle, Bertie/Windsor.
The assistant coaches are Ronnie Meekins, assistant coach at Manteo High School, and Tony White of Bertie.
The team was selected Sunday night at a regional meeting of the Albemarle league. Practice for the World Series will begin tonight.
The team's first game in the series will be 7 p.m. Aug. 17, against the Pacific Northwest regional winners. by CNB
