The North Carolina Fisheries Moratorium Steering Committee meeting that was postponed last week due to Hurricane Bertha has been rescheduled for Aug. 1 and 2.
The meeting will be held at the Duke Marine Lab on Pivers Island in Beaufort, N.C., and will begin at 8:30 a.m. both days.
The Moratorium Steering Committee is scheduled to vote on preliminary recommendations to overhaul the state's commercial and recreational fishing industry. Suggestions the group has considered include implementing a saltwater sports fishing license, adopting new gear restrictions and distinguishing between part-time and full-time commercial fishermen. Committee members will adopt recommendations at this meeting, then take those proposed rules to 19 public hearings across the state in August and September.
