SIMON L. MEBANE

Simon Louis Mebane of the 1400 block of Kate Drive departed this life July 16, 1996, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

A native of Windsor, N.C., he was the son of the late Simon L. Mebane and Mrs. Clarine C. Mebane of Windsor. Mr. Mebane retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station after 35 years and from Norfolk Court System after 12 years. Mr. Mebane was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Suffolk, and a former member of Cedar Landing Baptist Church, Windsor.

Survivors include his wife, Janice H. Mebane; his mother, Clarine Mebane of Windsor; two daughters, Loretta M. Gibbs of Chesapeake and Felicia Allen of Windsor; three sons, Alphonso Mebane of Virginia Beach and Ronald and Ryan Mebane, both of Chesapeake; three sisters, Clara Ward and Mary Bond, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Cherry Cofield of Windsor; a brother, Daniel Mebane of Windsor; four grandchildren, Gerald and Rodney Gibbs of Chesapeake, Nicki Mebane of Virginia Beach and Malcolm Mebane of Chesapeake; a daughter-in-law, Patrica Mebane of Virginia Beach; mother-in-law, Aileen Yates of Suffolk; sister-in-law, Mary Mebane of Windsor; two sons-in-law, Willie Gibbs of Chesapeake and Jack Allen of Windsor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Metropolitan Baptist Church, 125 County St., Suffolk, by Dr. Melvin M.R. Boone. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The body will be in the church Saturday by 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing will begin Friday after noon.
