Lt. Col. David Breingan Hayes, 68, U.S.M.C. (retired), of Hatteras Island, died July 10, 1996, in his residence.
Lt. Col. Hayes was born in San Diego, Calif., and was a Catholic. During his 26 years of service, Lt. Col. Hayes served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was the son of the late Rear Admr. John Daniel and Mary Louise Breingan Hayes; and the husband of Myrna Sabater Hayes of the home.
Besides his wife, Lt. Col. Hayes is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Hayes of Cary, N.C.; three sons, Michael Hayes and Patrick Hayes, both of Cary, and John Hayes of New Bern, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held aboard the ``Miss Hatteras'' at 7 p.m. Saturday. The ``Miss Hatteras'' will be leaving from the Oden Dock in Hatteras Village at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tenn. 38101. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge.
