Raymond M. Pettway Jr., 68, of the 5900 block of Appleton Drive, died July 17, 1996, in his residence.
Mr. Pettway, a native of Norfolk, retired in 1979 as fire captain of the Norfolk Fire Department after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and the Retired Fireman's Association. He was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II, 1944-1947.
Survivors include his wife, Ila L. Pettway; two sons, Raymond M. Pettway III of Norfolk and Patrick L. Pettway and his wife, Diane, of Chesapeake; two sisters, Nancy P. Cardman of Williamsburg and Anne P. ``Peggy'' Beisgen of Virginia Beach; a brother, William K. Pettway of Williamsburg; and three grandchildren, Raymond, Martin and Amanda.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by Father Anthony Diffenbaugh in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is in charge.
