MELVIN COWELL JR.

Melvin Cowell Jr., 60, of the 2600 block of Trenton Road, died July 15, 1996.

Mr. Cowell, a native of Norfolk County, was a mechanic at Art's Auto Shop, Philadelphia. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Philadelphia, which he attended until his health failed.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Cowell of Norfolk; three daughters, Dorothy Smith of Lorton, Va., Anita Bynum of Norfolk, Melnina Holmes of Chesapeake; three sons, Kelvin Cowell, Gary Cowell, both of Norfolk, Marvin Cowell of Chesapeake; his mother, Nannie Cowell of Chesapeake; three sisters, Delores Riddick of Jenkintown, Pa., Carrie Freeman of Norfolk, Nancy M. Fayton of Chesapeake; a brother, Leon Cowell of Chesapeake; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Glenn Cowell, and his father, Melvin Cowell Sr.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by Elder Paul Arrington in St. Stephens Holiness Church, 2562 Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 4158 Williamson St., Chesapeake, Saturday at 10 a.m. for the funeral procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral Service is in charge.
