Roanoke-Chowan residents concerned about the quality of their water can join their neighbors in the northeast for a set of public workshops next week.
The Chowan River Basinwide Plan will be addressed from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 25 at the Roanoke-Chowan Community College just west of Ahoskie.
State Division of Water Quality personnel will meet with all interested parties at Room 140 of the Freeland Building on campus.
Similar programs are planned that afternoon in Elizabeth City and the following morning in Manteo. Those workshops involve the Pasquotank River Basin.
At the three-hour sessions, state environmentalists will solicit comments on water priorities for specific regions.
Comments will then be used to help the state prepare a management plan and make recommendations on ways to protect waterways within 17 basins across the state.
Anyone interested in water quality is invited to attend.
For more information, call Suzanne Hoover of the state Division of Water Quality at (919) 733-5083, Ext. 573.
The workshops are sponsored by the state Cooperative Extension Service, Division of Water Quality and state League of Municipalities. by CNB
