Sentara Health System unveiled its upgraded air ambulance, the

Nightingale helicopter, Wednesday at Sentara Norfolk General

Hospital. Above, Nightingale lead pilot Dick Fedorowicz uses the old

BO105 copter as shade while the new helicopter, BK117, is shown to

the public. The new Nightingale has a roomier interior, right, to

carry extra staff, equipment and patients. Among the Nightingale's

other updated features: It flies faster, boasts improved

communication equipment and, unlike the older machine, this one has

air conditioning. Below, Fedorowicz takes the air ambulance for a

test spin Wednesday shortly before it was brought into active

service later in the day. by CNB
