I never cease to be amazed by some of the ridiculous propaganda that is printed in the press on the Goals 2000 issue. The most recent example is the letter from Del. Kenneth Plum (July 2).
Delegate Plum attacks Governor Allen for refusing to allow Virginia to be subjected to the Clinton Goals 2000 program. He criticizes the governor for refusing to allow even more control of Virginia's public schools to be ceded to federal bureaucrats in exchange for the equivalent of less than four pennies per day per student in federal funds.
Governor Allen has opposed Virginia's participation in Goals 2000 for a very basic and simple reason - further loss of control of Virginia's schools to the whims and dictates of federal bureaucrats.
