Thomas Garland ``Pappy'' Stanton Sr., 82, of the 5100 block of Deep Creek Blvd., died July 19, 1996, in his residence.
Mr. Stanton, a native of Perquimans County, N.C., retired from Colonial Stores as a shipping clerk. He was a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Stanton; a daughter, Phyllis Harsche of Chesapeake; two sons, Thomas G. Stanton Jr. and Jimmie R. Stanton Sr., both of Chesapeake; four sisters, Mildred Howell of Perquimans County, Audrey Matthews and Marie Divers, both of Hertford, N.C., Thelma Harrell of Edenton, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by Dr. Ted Barton and the Rev. Ernie Myers in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m.
