VERNELL S. CONE

Vernell Scott Cone, of 2421 Featherbed Drive, formerly of Claiborne Road, Sutherland, died Friday morning July 19, 1996, at Sentara Nursing Home, Chesapeake.

Mrs. Cone was the daughter of the late Willie and Mary Scott and was a native of Sutherland. She had resided in Sutherland until 1988 at which time she moved to Chesapeake. She was the widow of Randolph Cone and was preceded in death by a son, Willis R. Cone. She was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church, Sutherland, where she was formerly a member of the Missionary Circle and Senior Choir. Upon moving to Chesapeake, she joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

She leaves to treasure her memory a daughter, Barbara C. Jackson of Gaithersburg, Md; a son, Dea. Charles R. Cone of Chesapeake; a sister, Rebecca S. Edwards of Chesapeake; a son-in-law, G. Morgan Jackson of Gaithersburg; a daughter-in-law, Clementine S. Cone of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, Greer Jackson and Monica M. Jackson, both of Gaithersburg, Aubert B. Cone of Landover, Md., Charles R. Cone Jr., Randy Cone, Ashley Cone, and Dariel Dixon, all of Chesapeake; three sisters-in-law, Mary Hazel Clemons of Smithfield, Agnes Cone of Chesterfield and Dorothy Cone of Yeadon, Pa.; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Rocky Branch Baptist Church, Sutherland, by the Rev. Curtis Edmonds Sr., pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, assisted by Dr. Herbert Anderson and Rev. John Winbush. Interment will be in the Rocky Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends will assemble at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Dea. and Mrs. Charles R. Cone, 2421 Featherbed Drive, Chesapeake, at 10 a.m. A wake will be held Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, at which time the family will receive friends and remains will be viewed. The family may be contacted at the residence. The remains rest at Tuckers Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of the Tuckers Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, A.A. Tucker and J.B. Tucker, funeral directors.
