At 10 a.m. Monday, the $39 million North Military Highway improvement effort will get the official ``green light'' in a special ceremony to be held under a tent at Janaf Shopping Center. Mayor Paul D. Fraim will flip the switch on a ceremonial traffic light, turning it from red to green, signifying the start of the 3 1/2-year project.
The project involves widening and improving the roadway from I-264 and Poplar Hall Drive on the south end to Lowery Road on the north. In addition, the Military Highway/Virginia Beach Boulevard interchange will be replaced, including a new bridge, and Virginia Beach Boulevard will be widened to six lanes to the west of the North Military Highway intersection.
