POLICE SEEK SUSPECT IN DOUBLE SHOOTING THAT LEFT MAN DEAD

Police released an artist's sketch Friday of a suspect in a double shooting in Grandy Village July 12 that left one man dead and another wounded.

The shooting occurred about 11:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Wiley Drive near the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River. The victims then drove to the Amoco station in the 3000 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd. for help.

Both men were taken to a hospital, where Maurice Thompson, 26, of the 3800 block of Big Bear Court in Virginia Beach, died. The other victim was identified as David Downing, 34, of the 400 block of Westfield Court in Chesapeake.

Police said they had no suspects or motive for the shooting.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s. He is 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 140 to 150 pounds. He has a light or medium complexion, was clean shaven and wore dreadlocks. He was wearing a waist-length green, hooded raincoat.
