Norris R. Riddick, who escaped from police Tuesday with his hands cuffed behind him, was arrested Thursday night. He is being held in Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bail.
Riddick, 41, freed himself from a chest restraint in the front of a police car Tuesday morning after being arrested in connection with a larceny at a convenience store on Carolina Road, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. Riddick fled while two officers were inside the 7-Eleven talking to the manager, he said.
Riddick, whose last known address was in the 700 block of Ashley Ave., has been charged with three felonies: escape and two counts of third-offense petty larceny - one for allegedly stealing merchandise from the store and one for taking the officer's handcuffs.
A citizen reported seeing Riddick about 6 p.m. Officers W.J. Sanker and J.L. Naylor arrested him on Greenfield Crescent after a brief scuffle. Riddick was not wearing the handcuffs.
