THELMA B. WELLS

Thelma B. Wells, 74, retired teacher of the Isle of Wight County Public Schools, departed this life suddenly on Thursday July 18, 1996, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.

Miss Wells was born in Smithfield, Va., to the late Joseph James Wells and Bessie Wells Penn. Thelma was a dedicated and faithful member of the First Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Rushmere, Va. She taught in the public school systems of Surry and Isle of Wight counties, retiring from the Isle of Wight County Public School System in 1986 after many years of dedicated service.

She leaves, to join her later, her mother, Bessie Wells Penn of Smithfield; a sister, Joris W. Bradby of Smithfield; two brothers, Wilton N. Wells and William A. Wells Sr. of Smithfield; a sister-in-law, Arlena J. Wells of Smithfield; a brother-in-law, Hubert Bradley Jr. of Smithfield; an aunt, Gracie W. Pierce of Smithfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at First Gravel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Vincent L. Thomas. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Arrangements are by Poole's Funeral Home, Smithfield. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
