Gertrude Stowe Burgess, 76, of the 1500 block of Camden Ave., died July 18, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mrs. Burgess, a native of Wake County, N.C., was a retired custodian from Norfolk City Public School System. She was a member of Garden of Prayer (NU)4, Church of God In Christ, Portsmouth. She is survived by her husband, Johnnie L. Burgess.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday by the Rev. Samuel Moore in Garden of Prayer (NU)4, Church of God In Christ. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Monday. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
