Tommie Hewitt Sr., 61, of the 3800 block of Two Oaks Road, died July 18, 1996, in D.C. General Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Hewitt, a retired electrical engineer, worked for General Services Administration for 41 years. He was a native of Monessen, Pa., and a member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville, Portsmouth. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Alice L. Hewitt; a daughter, Selina Y. Hewitt of Portsmouth; a son, U.S. Army Capt. Tommie Hewitt Jr. of Fort Bragg, N.C.; two sisters, Irene Hayes and Martha Scott, both of Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren, Leon Hewitt, Lamarr Hewitt, and Kristen Hewitt, all of Portsmouth; daughter-in-law, Janice Hewitt of Fort Bragg; three nephews, Robert Hewitt of Austintown, Ohio, William Hewitt of Canton, Ohio, and Wayne Hewitt of Monessen; and a host of nieces, other nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday by Dr. T.M. Steele in New First Baptist Church Taylorsville. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
