HAMPTON CITY HALL STAFF SENT HOME DUE TO POWER OUTAGE

Hampton City Hall employees are enjoying an unexpected three-day weekend thanks to Thursday's severe storms.

City Hall was among the 13,000 Virginia Power customers across Hampton Roads who lost power because of the storm.

The outage at City Hall occurred around 4 a.m. Thursday and apparently was the result of lightning, said Marvin Walker, director of customer service for Virginia Power.

City employees showed up for work Friday morning only to be sent home because damage was more severe than expected, said Tom Daniel, director of general services for Hampton. by CNB
