Georgia Smithey Pringle Johnson, 78, of the 900 block of Widgeon Road, departed this life at her daughter's residence on July 22, 1996.
A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Philip J. and Lovie J. Smithey. Mrs. Johnson, a retired nurses aide, was the widow of Charles E.L. Pringle and George Johnson respectively. She was a longtime member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was the oldest member of the Number One Usher Board and an avid church school member.
She is survived by her daughters, Gratia L. Patterson and June P. Lieteau of Norfolk; a brother, Dr. Robert A. Smithey; and a son-in-law, Robert Lieteau, both of Norfolk; a foster sister, Lovie Warren of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Precious J. Patterson of Alexandria, Va., Ronald E. Patterson of Denver, Colo., Michael E. Johnson and Keith E. Lieteau of Norfolk; two great-grandchildren, Turquoise Patterson of Alexandria, Va., and Keona Wright of Portsmouth; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday at noon by the Rev. James Whitaker in New Bethel Baptist Church, Greenwood Drive, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Avenue of Flags. The body may be viewed at the church from 10 a.m. to noon. Hale Funeral Home is in charge. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. for the procession to the church.
