Julia Ruth Stevens will take part in opening ceremonies of the Babe Ruth World Series in Manteo Aug. 17.
The daughter of the famed home-run hitter lives in Conway, N.H.. She will arrive Aug. 15, attend an evening banquet at First Flight Middle School on Aug. 16, participate in a parade on Aug. 17 and attend the first game of the series later in the day.
``Julia remains very active in the Babe Ruth program which was founded in her father's name and currently has over 855,000 participants,'' Ron Tellefsen, Babe Ruth president, said at the organization headquarters in Trenton, N.J.
The nine-team tournament runs through Aug. 24. There are three games - at 2, 4 and 7:30 p.m. - on Aug. 17 and 18, two games at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Aug. 19-20-21, a single game at 7 p.m. Aug. 22, the semifinals at noon and 3 p.m. on Aug. 23, and the championship at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24.
The games will be played at Manteo High School's refurbished diamond. Tickets are $50 for a family tournament pass, $35 for an individual tournament pass and $10 for a daily ticket.
