James Russell Watts, of the 3300 block of Kimball Terrace, died July 22, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Born in Portsmouth, he managed several taverns in Norfolk and worked as a welder in Baltimore, Md. He was a former member of St. James Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, and the boys' choir. Russell was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman, active in Boy Scouting, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Frogs Hunting and Fishing Club for many years.
Survivors include his sister, Vivian A. Watts of Portsmouth; three brothers, Christopher C. Watts Jr. of Lakehurst, N.J., Webster D. Watts of North White Plains, N.Y., and Milton A. Watts of Portsmouth; and a very dear companion, Beulah Brown of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Arcelous Elliott Jr. in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Hampton National Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. today. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
