MAE BELLE A. HUNT

Mae Belle Akers Hunt concluded her life's journey in a local hospital on July 23, 1996, one month and eight days from her 102nd birthday.

She was the widow of William J. Hunt and was a faithful member of Freemason Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Hunt was born Sept. 1, 1895, in Rocky Mt., Va., and moved to Newport News with her parents, William Henry and Judith Mae Akers and family, when she was a child. She moved to Norfolk after she married F. Wayne McLeskey Sr. in 1918, and has lived in Virginia Beach the past 23 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, F. Wayne McLeskey Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Virginia Beach; stepson, William Wilcox; three grandchildren and their mother, Faye E. McLeskey, of Virginia Beach, Terri M. Veith and Michelle M. Guthrie, both of Virginia Beach, and Kenny McLeskey of Manteo, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan DeHart, Blake and Nicole Guthrie of Virginia Beach and Brittani Faye McLeskey of Manteo; 12 nieces and nephews, Lucille Oliver of Norfolk, Judith Mae Askew of Gatesville, N.C., Gloria Allen of Raleigh, N.C., Olga A. Abbitt of Newport News, Jacque Akers of Texas, Barbara Akers of California, James Munden of Virginia Beach, Bill Munden of Lumberton, N.C., Grover Eason, Kenny Akers and Maurice Akers of Newport News and Lauren Akers of Afton, Va.

A chapel service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk with Dr. Donald J. Dunlap and Dr. William Lumpkin presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Hunt will be laid to rest in the love of God, family and friends in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk.
