Francis E. Whitley Sr.
ELIZABETH CITY - Francis E. Whitley Sr., 77, of 49 Route 17, died Monday, July 22, 1996, at home.
Mr. Whitley served with the Army and Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was also a Baptist by faith. He was the son of the late Alonzo J. and Lulie Francis Whitley.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Whitley of Elizabeth City; four sons, Joe Whitley of Hertford, N.C., Francis Whitley Jr. of Chesapeake, Richard and Albert Whitley, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five daughters, Grace Whitley of Elizabeth City, Wonda Saulsberry of Chesapeake, Kathleen Burke of Chesapeake, Rita Whitley of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Rosemary Stevenson of Belvidere, N.C.; along with 36 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge.
