Edna Beamon Cherry, of the 200 block of E. Indian River Road, died July 22, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Born in South Norfolk, she retired as a midwife after 38 years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, and was a member of the Nurses Unit and the (NU)1 Choir. She was also a member of The Cheerful Gospel Singers of Chesapeake.
Survivors include her husband, Nathaniel Cherry of Norfolk; six daughters, Edna Mae Leary, Natalie Brown and Yvonne Flood, all of Norfolk, Betty Jean Brooks and Ethel Jackson of Chesapeake and Thelma Fuller of Virginia Beach; three sons, Nathaniel Cherry Jr., James Cherry and Noel Cherry of Norfolk; 35 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and many surviving relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Darryl Scott in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge.
