William Conner Smith, 87, died July 19, 1996, in Maryview Hospital.
He was a native of Portsmouth, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, and a retired movie projectionist. William showed the first ``talking picture'' in a local movie theater and worked at all area theaters, the last being the Commodore.
Survivors include his wife, Irma Woodard Smith; sisters-in-law, Agnes Woodard Wax and Cora J. Woodard; niece, Cheryl Wax Creager; and great-niece, Kathy Janowski and her husband Ted of Jacksonville, Fla.
A private memorial service will be held. Donations in his memory may be made to SEVAMP Senior Services to assist others or to the Portsmouth Humane Society because he loved the animals so much.
