Gerald Lee Bement, of the 3600 block of Orange St., died July 23, 1996, in his residence.
Born in Gentry, Ark., he retired after 30 years as a salesman for Master Auto and retired after eight years from security at DePaul Hospital. He was a member of Norfolk Calvary Church of the Nazarene. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a member of Churchland Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn B. Bement of Norfolk; daughter, Sharon B. Hadcox of Chesapeake; two sons, Pastor Stephen D. Bement of Norfolk and Fred Lee Shipman of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Marie Moran of Mattoon, Ill., Ethel Woodley of Champaign, Ill.; four brothers, Roy Bement, Jimmy Bement and Lloyd Bement, all of St. Louis, Mo., Harold Bement of Cahokia, Ill.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Friday by Pastor Stephen Bement in Norfolk Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 967 Newell Ave. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
