James R. Watts

NORFOLK - James Russell Watts, of the 3300 block of Kimball Terrace, died July 22, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Born in Portsmouth, he managed several taverns in Norfolk and worked as a welder in Baltimore, Md. He was a former member of St. James Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, and the boys' choir. Russell was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman, active in Boy Scouting, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Frogs Hunting and Fishing Club for many years. He attended I.C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth, and took various electronic courses at Norfolk State University.

Survivors include his sister, Vivian A. Watts of Portsmouth; three brothers, Christopher C. Watts Jr. of Lakehurst, N.J., Webster D. Watts of North White Plains, N.Y., and Milton A. Watts of Portsmouth; a very dear companion, Beulah Brown of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Vivian Cuffee Watts and Christopher C. Watts Sr., both of Portsmouth.

A funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. today by the Rev. Arceleous Elliott Jr. in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth. Burial is in Hampton National Veterans Cemetery with military honors. The family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. today for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
