Several town streets were blocked Thursday evening as workers tried to dismantle and stabilize the Manteo water tower.
The old tower was sliced nearly in half by lunchtime, a Dare County Sheriff's Department officer said.
As thunderstorms rumbled through the town about 6 p.m., the crunched water storage tank seemed to tilt precariously toward the ground. by CNB
