The body of a 47-year-old Richmond man was found floating in the Pamlico Sound just north of Buxton Thursday afternoon, National Park Service officials said.
Family members had been looking for the man, said Bob Woody, a spokesman for the park service. Woody was not certain how long the man had been missing.
A park service employee spotted the man's truck at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in a nearby parking area, Woody said. When officials started searching the area, the man's body was seen drifting several hundred yards off the shoreline, Woody said.
The man, who had a history of heart problems, had been crabbing and fishing in the area, according to family members.
The body has been sent to Greenville for an autopsy.
