NETTIE F. BUTLER

Nettie Frances Russell Butler, 91, died July 26, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Butler was born in Nansemond County, was reared in Gates County, N.C., and was a long time resident of Franklin. She was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Flora Howell Russell and the widow of Harry C. Butler Sr. Mrs. Butler was a homemaker and a member of the High Street United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances B. Thomas and her husband, John T. and Mildred B. Mason and her husband, Wallace; a son, Harry C. Butler Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, all of Franklin; two sisters, Alease R. Howell and Lessie R. Rountree and a brother, W.B. Russell, all of Suffolk; eight grandchildren, Joyce B. Blythe, Judy B. Bailey, Phyllis B. Bunch, Charles A. Butler, Harry C. Butler III, W. Bruce Mason, John T. Thomas Jr. and Joan T. Sparks; 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in High Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. James M. Smith. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home, and suggest that memorial donations may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity.
