Ernest Edward Askew Sr., 83, formerly of Academy Street, died Thursday July 25, 1996, in Sentara Nursing Center, Norfolk.
Mr. Askew was born in Gates County. He was a retired teacher and principal in the Gates County School System, having served over 30 years. A former member of the Gatesville Ruritan Club, he was a veteran of World War II. He was the husband of the late Ethel Parker Morgan Askew.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth A. Moore of Windsor, N.C.; a son, Ernest E. Askew Jr. of Elizabeth City; a brother, Allen Askew of Eure; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Gatesville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lisa Creech-Bledsoe. Burial will follow in the Askew Family Plot at Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville.
