WIMBUSH PROMOTED: Jane S. Wimbush of Chesapeake, a 14-year g1sfbiz28 Wimbush veteran of the Virginia Department of Transportation, has been selected as the construction engineer for the Suffolk District, which encompasses the area from the City of Franklin to the Eastern Shore and from the North Carolina line to Williamsburg.

Wimbush will manage the busiest construction program in the state with more than $1 billion in construction funds allocated for the next six years. She also will oversee the department's location and design, right of way, environmental and materials sections.

Wimbush grew up in Hampton Roads and graduated from Tabb High School. She received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the University of Virginia and a master's degree from Old Dominion University. She joined VDOT in 1982 as part of the department's training program.

PRESIDENT ELECTED: Dr. David Lotz has been elected new president of the Tidewater Optometric Society.

Lotz, who served as vice president of the society in 1995, practices on Holland Road.

Dr. William Waldron, the new vice president, practices in Newport News. The secretary is Dr. Michael Weil of Virginia Beach, and Dr. Pamela Lundberg of Toano will continue as treasurer.

DIRECTOR NAMED: Starr Matton has been selected as the director of Riddick's Folly Inc.

Riddick's Folly, a Greek Revival home, was built in 1837 by Mills Riddick. Currently, the home serves the community as a central facility for the arts, promoting educational, cultural and charitable interests, and exhibiting programs that foster appreciation for the history and heritage of the city.

Matton received her bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Oglethorpe University. Most recently, she has served as the activities coordinator at Riddick's Folly, planning the educational outreach programs and fulfilling general administrative responsibilities, including grant and workshop preparation. Matton has appeared as a living history performer, portraying five women of the past three centuries at historic sites in Hampton Roads, including frequent appearances at Riddick's Folly.

She is the mother of two grown children and lives in Virginia Beach.
