A public hearing to evaluate the current delivery system for mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Norfolk City Council Chambers, City Hall, 11th Floor, 810 Union St. in Norfolk.
The hearing will be held by the Joint Subcommittee to Evaluate the Future Delivery of Publicly Funded Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services. The subcommittee will evaluate the current delivery system for those services and make recommendations for system reform and more effective methods of financing and providing services to consumers.
Issues included in the parameters of the joint subcommittee's directives address how the current system operates, the principles and goals for an enhanced comprehensive public system, the range of services needed by consumers as well as the funds necessary to implement them and the relationship between the responsible system components.
Additionally, the subcommittee will look at the increased involvement of family and consumers in the planning process, the methods used to evaluate treatment outcomes in order to achieve appropriate accountability, and the review and utilization to the appropriate extent of continuing recommendations made by other work groups.
Persons interested in speaking to the joint subcommittee should contact the Norfolk Community Services Board offices at 441-5300 prior to the hearing.
Speakers are required to provide a copy of their comments and, because of time constraints, confine their comments to three minutes.
