LAWRENCE L. CANN

Lawrence L. ``Moxie'' Cann, 73, of the 300 block of Green Street, died Wednesday, July 24, 1996, in Maryview Medical Center.

He was born in Bamberg, S.C., and was the son of the late Daniel S. Cann and Mamie Cann Gordon. Mr. Cann retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Commissary Store where he was employed as a butcher for 21 years. He also was employed at Dave Schlitz clothing store on High Street in Portsmouth for 28 years.

Mr. Cann was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and was a former trustee, former member of the Male Usher Board and a former member of the Brotherhood. He was an active member of Truxton Masonic Lodge 199 where he serve as Past Master.

Survivors include two sisters, Caretha G. Cross and Emmareen Buie, both of Portsmouth; three brothers, Frank J. Cann of New York City, Malachi Cann and Monty M. Cann, both of Portsmouth; and a special friend, Eather Jenkins. He also leaves to cherish his memory nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday, July 30, 1996, in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. William S. Hampton. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will be at the residence of Mrs. Caretha G. Cross, 310 Navajo Trail, Apt. 4, Portsmouth. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
