MARY J. DYER

Mary Jim Dyer, of Miles, Va., died Friday, July 12, 1996, at her home in Hendersonville.

A native of Norfolk, she was a former resident of Albemarle, N.C., where her husband practiced urology for 20 years. She was a daughter of Mary Mason Neal of Roanoke, Va., and the late James Young Neal. Mrs. Dyer attended Graham School in Norfolk, Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in English. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, the Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke and the First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle. She was an avid gardener, bridge player and an accomplished pianist.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Robert Kent Dyer, M.D.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Justin and Forrest S. Mohler of Horse Shore, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Kent Dyer Jr., M.D., and Nancy B. Dyer of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Frances M. Neal Putt of Richmond; a brother, John Young Neal of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Robert Forrest Mohler of Horse Shoe and Kathryn Elizabeth Dyer of Edmond; a niece, Elizabeth M. Neal and a nephew, John Y. Neal Jr., both of Virginia Beach.

The funeral was held on July 14, 1996, at Shepherd's Church Street Chapel with the Rev. Joseph C. Sullivan officiating. The burial followed in Shepherd Memorial Park. Memorial contribution may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, P.O. Box 2395, Hendersonville, N.C. 23739, or a charity of choice. Thomas Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors, Hendersonville, N.C., were in charge of arrangements.
