CAREER TRACK

DISTRIBUTION

Peggy L. Hawkes was named account executive for Pioneer-Standard Electronics Inc. She works in Virginia Beach and will manage information technology solutions to corporate accounts in South Hampton Roads. Prior to this, she was an account manager for Bell Atlantic SSD in Hampton and Digital Equipment Corp. in Virginia Beach. Pioneer's headquarters is in Gaithersburg, Md.

ENGINEERING

Langley and McDonald in Virginia Beach appointed James W. Brawley III and John M. Payne as associates. Brawley is a licensed professional engineer and a certified value engineer. As project manager, he specializes in waterfront and marine projects. Payne is a professional land surveyor registered in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Tennessee. He serves as senior survey project manager and manages the company's use of the Global Positioning System for the preparation of hydrographic and control surveys.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Beryl S. Brown has joined Dr. Roy M. Oswaks' practice of general surgery in Virginia Beach. Brown specializes in diseases and surgery of the breast and advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures. She is a recent graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Dr. William C. Holcomb of Virginia Beach was elected vice president of the Virginia Optometric Association. He has practices in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake and specializes in contact lenses, diagnosis and treatment of vision related disease and abnormalities, and pediatric vision care.

Dr. A.J. Quaranta and Dr. Mark W. Jenison have joined the medical staff at NDC Medical Center in Norfolk. Quaranta specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He recently completed a fellowship at Temple University in Philadelphia. Jenison specializes in dermatology. He just finished his residency at University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill.

HOSPITALITY

Mark R. DiVenuti was named catering manager at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel & Conference Center. He was most recently director of food and beverage with the Quality Inn and Suites, Hampton.

Bart Johnson was named a casualty consultant at Marsh & McLennan Protection Consultants. He will be assisting clients in Virginia from the firm's Norfolk and Richmond offices. Prior to this, he was a branch manager for risk control services at Crawford & Co. in Newport News and Winston-Salem, N.C.

ORGANIZATIONS

Cherylann T. Sherwood was named public relations manager at Volunteer Hampton Roads in Norfolk. She will oversee all publications, media relations and special events. She was previously external affairs specialist for the Government Affairs/Community Investment and Corporate Relations divisions at the Bank of Boston Connecticut in Hartford, Conn.

Nerissa W. Behrmann was named volunteer program manager at Volunteer Hampton Roads. She will oversee volunteer recruitment and management for Festevents projects. She was previously a student accountant at Old Dominion University.

Volunteer Hampton Roads also elected Elizabeth Patterson of Signature Financial Management Inc. as president; Barbara Stevens of USAA as first vice president; and Gerald Sullivan of Sullivan, Andrews & Taylor, second vice president of the non-profit volunteer center.

William L. Dudley Jr. of Knight, Dudley, Clarke & Dolph; Hugh L. Patterson of Willcox & Savage, and Charles F. Tucker of Vandeventer, Black & Martin in Norfolk are serving on the newly-formed ``Virginia Mediation Panel,'' which was assembled by the American Arbitration Association in Richmond. The three local lawyers are among 15 who will serve on the forum to resolve business disputes, particularly large, complex commercial cases.

RETIREMENT CARE

Steven H. Jewell was named administrator for health services at Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach. Prior to this, he held a similar position with Glen Meadows Retirement Community in Glen Arm, Md.

SHIPBUILDING

Alfred Little Jr. was named vice president of human resources at Newport News Shipbuilding. Some of his responsibilities will include employee relations, compensation, benefits, employment, labor relations and training and development. Prior to this, he was vice president of human resources for the Sun Company Inc. in Philadelphia.

ACCOUNTING Karen M. Dzupinka, Julie Shields and W. Kevin Stewart were promoted from staff accountants to senior accountants at Goodman & Co. in Norfolk. And Sheila Kay Alley was promoted from para-accountant to staff accountant.

STOCK BROKERAGE

Donald R. Watson has joined Scott & Stringfellow's Norfolk office as an investment broker and retirement plan consultant. Watson, a certified public accountant and certified financial planner, was previously director of business planning at Malcolm G. Fries & Associates in Newport News.

INSURANCE

James L. Kitchin Jr. was named senior vice president of Hilb, Rogal & Hamilton Co. of Virginia. He will be managing the Hampton Roads office in Virginia Beach. He joined the insurance company in 1995 as a producer with the commercial insurance department. He was also the previous owner of the Kitchin Group in Virginia Beach.
