Elder Garnett Lee Easter, 74, of Route 2, Sandy Ridge Road, husband of Mrs. Elsie Hawks Easter, died Sunday, July 28, 1996, at N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Elder Easter was born in Carroll County, Va., March 29, 1922, son of the late Jacob and Caroline Allen Easter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Also he was a Primitive Baptist minister, retired farmer and a member of Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Hawks Easter of the home; a daughter, Betty Edwards of Cana; a son, Elgia Lee Easter and wife, Mary, of Virginia Beach; two stepdaughters, Connie Gwyn of Fancy Gap, Va., Brenda Bivens of Cana; five stepsons, Jimmy Cagle, Bernard Cagle, both of Mocksville, N.C., Leroy Cagle, Jack Cagle, both of Cana, Jeffrey Cagle of Hillsville, Va.; a special granddaughter, April Dawn Hall of Cana; two additional grandchildren, Becky Easter and Tim Easter, both of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren, Summer Hall and Zachary Hall, both of Cana; 15 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Savada Bedsaul of Lambsburg, Va., Mrs. Hazel Rippey of Sparta, N.C., Mrs. Velma Long of Pfafftown, N.C., Mrs. Irene Clodfelter of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Glenda Dalton of Hillsville; three brothers, the Rev. Harris Easter of Fancy Gap, Cameron Easter of Cana, Perry Easter of Rural Hall, N.C. In addition to his parents, Elder Easter was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Forest Cagle Easter; a sister, Mabel Cox and a brother, Allen Easter.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 1996, in Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Mt. Airy, N.C., by Elder Roy Wilson and Elder Lester Faulkner with interment to follow in the Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
