Reuben Dennis ``Farmer'' Barham, 83, of the Village at Woods Edge, died July 29, 1996, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Barham was born in Forsyth County, N.C., and reared in Madison near Greensboro. He was a son of the late S.A. and Minnie Price Barham, and was the widower of Rosa ``Coy'' Moore Barham. Mr. Barham had retired as farm manager and soil scientist in the Woodlands Division of Union Camp Corp. from 1945 to 1977. He was a 1934 graduate of the University of North Carolina and worked for the National Biscuit Co. from 1937 to 1938. He was freshman baseball coach at V.P.I. from 1939 to 1940, and was vocational teacher and baseball coach at Franklin High School from 1940 to 1945. Mr. Barham was a member of Cypress Cove Country Club. He was unofficial Union Camp guide for customers who rated a hunting and fishing trip. He was president of Pheasant Pluckers International in Franklin and was a charter member of SRAIL.
He is survived by two daughters, Martha Barham Joyner of Orange, Va., and Kate Barham Welch of Laramie, Wyo.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Barham of Cary, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jennie and Matthew Barham, Alex and Kathy Joyner, and Sara Joyner Haney; two great-grandchildren, Rachael and Joel Joyner. He was predeceased by a son, Richard D. ``Dick'' Barham; and two brothers, Travis and Sam Barham.
The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. today in the Village at Woods Edge. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
