A 73-year-old Norfolk woman was injured Monday afternoon when the van in which she had been riding backed into her at a roadside produce stand near Holland.
Sallie J. Moore, of the 3400 block of Peronne Ave., was pinned beneath the vehicle and had several broken bones, said Suffolk police officer Dean Smith. A wrecker lifted the van off her, he said.
Moore was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was in stable condition Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The accident happened just after 5 p.m. on U.S. Route 58 near Leafwood Drive. Moore, who was returning home from North Carolina with a group from Temple Baptist Church, had gotten out of the van and walked to the back, then stooped to tie her shoe, Smith said.
The driver of the van, The Rev. James M. Pullen, 54, of the 1100 block of Chatmoss Drive in Virginia Beach, backed closer to the produce stand and was unable to see Moore, the officer said.
Police were not expecting to charge Pullen.
