EDWARD M. COWAN

Edward Marshall ``Lardy'' Cowan, 64, of the 400 block of Drum Hill Road, died July 30, 1996, in Obici hospital.

A native of Oak City, N.C., Mr. Cowan was a retired stock and trim specialist for Ford Motor Company in the Norfolk plant. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, the Mary Sue Brittle Class and McAlister Lodge (NU)185, Whaleyville, Va. He was past worthy patron of Whaleyville Chapter (NU)137, Order of the Eastern Star and past member of Somerton United Methodist Church, where he served as past chairman of the board and past superintendent of Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Cowan; a daughter, Emily C. Williams of Orange Park, Fla.; a son, Edward Lawrence Cowan of Suffolk; two granddaughters, Lisa M. Knight of Suffolk, Melody D. Knight of Orange Park; a sister, Mildred E. Dewell of Suffolk; and a brother, R. Leo Cowan of Suffolk. He was the son of the late Norman Gus and Laura Baker Cowan.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 1996, in Hill Funeral Home, by Dr. Merle D. Correll, the Rev. Cecil Smith and the Rev. Rob Vaughan. Interment with Masonic rites will be in Somerton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23434 or the Whaleyville Volunteer Fire Department, 6235 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk, Va. 23438. Friends may join the family at the residence.
