W. Douglas Maynard, 68, of Eden Drive, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at his home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Charlotte, N.C. Doug was a meat cutter in various stores including Swift & Co., A & P, Farm Fresh and Earl's Market for a period of 50 years. In Shenandoah, Va., he owned D & D Market and was a member of the Lion's Club. He later retired as a supervisor with 10 years service from Little Creek Amphibious Base Commissary. After retirement, he worked part-time for Food Lion.
Surviving are five daughters, Patsy Gustafason of Norfolk, Millie Poole of Richmond, Christine L. Wiggins of Blue Ridge, Lorraine M. Overton of Virginia Beach, Diane M. Levins of Chesapeake; four sons, Tommy Maynard of Ohio, David Maynard of Virginia Beach, Rick Maynard, Joey Maynard of Chesapeake; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Thelma Hill Maynard, his father, Jacob Carl Maynard; and a brother, Numa Charles Maynard.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 1996, in Oakey's North Chapel. The Rev. Bruce Robinson will officiate. Interment will be in Old Dominion Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Oakey's North Chapel.
