Southeastern Virginia residents can recycle old telephone books through SPSA's curbside recycling service by placing them at the curb with newspapers on their regular collection day. SPSA drop-off center-users can place their old books in the containers marked ``newspapers'' at the following locations:
Suffolk - Holland Elementary School, Bennetts Creek Texaco Station, John F. Kennedy Middle School, John Yeates Middle School, the Municipal Center, and the Main Street lot beside the railroad tracks.
Franklin - The old Peanut Warehouse, Jackson Street.
Isle of Wight County - Isle of Wight Courthouse, Carrsville Transfer Station, Windsor Elementary School, Rushmere Volunteer Fire Station, Smithfield Library, and Jones Creek Station.
Old telephone books will be taken to Tidewater Fibre where they will be shipped to a paper mill for repulping into new paper products such as new phone books or incorporated into other paper-based products. Area businesses also can recycle their old books with SPSA. Businesses with 50 books or less may use SPSA's drop-recycling centers. Businesses with more than 50 books should contact Tidewater Fibre at 543-5766 for additional instructions.
The collection period officially will end Sept. 20.
