John P. Stringfellow Jr., 68, of the 700 block of Westover Ave., died July 26, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Stringfellow was a native of Williamsburg. He was the son of the late John and Hazel Stringfellow. He graduated from William and Mary University and later received his Master's Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. He retired from the Norfolk Social Services Department. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.
Mr. Stringfellow was a member of the National Association of Social Services Workers and the Academy of Social Services Workers. He was very active in volunteer work at Norfolk General Hospital and at Hillhaven Nursing Home and he also served as an eucharistic minister and adjunct chaplin for chapel services at Norfolk General Hospital.
Survivors include a brother, David K. Stringfellow of Beaufort, S.C. and many nieces and nephews.
A church service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father John J. Dorgan. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 520 Graydon Ave., Norfolk 23517. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel are handling the arrangements.
