Thomas Benvenuto, 68, died July 30, 1996, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Benvenuto, a native of Iron Mountain, Mich., was retired as a lieutenant from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. He had formerly owned and operated The Book End Card and Gift Shops and currently owned and operated the George Washington Mini-Mall and the National Card and Gift Co. He was a member of St. Therese's Catholic Church and was the widower of Joan McClelland Benvenuto.
Survivors include two daughters; one son; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Therese's Catholic Church by the Rev. James Griffin. Burial with military honors will be noon Saturday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
