One man was killed and another severely injured in an apparent robbery at an Ocean View apartment.
Police are questioning four juveniles and an adult who were intercepted in Newport News as they tried to leave the area on a bus.
The names of the victims were withheld until relatives could be notified.
The crime occurred about 7:45 a.m. in an apartment in the 9600 block of 9th Bay St., police said.
The injured man was treated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for stab wounds. The dead man's body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's office for an examination to determine the cause of death. Police would not say if he had been stabbed.
Police said the five people in custody - an adult man, three male juveniles and one female juvenile - were taken off a Greyhound bus at Fort Eustis after Norfolk police alerted Newport News authorities that they were on the bus.
A police spokeswoman said investigators expected to file charges against at least some of the people in custody.
Police said items were taken from the apartment.
